Obituary
Norma Rae Eggleston, 92, of Kalamazoo, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2025, with her family by her side.
She was born on April 20, 1933, in Marshall, Michigan, to the late Raymond and Emma (Sellen) Weers. Shortly after graduating, Norma met the love of her life, Harold "Hal" Eggleston. They were united in marriage on September 20, 1952, and together built a loving home and raised four children.
When her children started school, Norma began working in the school lunchroom as a cook. This allowed her to remain close to her children during the day and, as she often said with a smile, to "keep an eye on them."
Norma enjoyed an active life. She spent many years participating in aerobics, hiking alongside Hal, and cross-country skiing. Well into her later years, she remained dedicated to her daily four-mile walk around the block, a routine that reflected both her energy and determination.
She also enjoyed traveling, first with her young family and later with her husband Hal. Holiday dinners were especially meaningful to her, as they brought her family together around the table. She took great joy in baking, with desserts being her specialty and a beloved part of every celebration.
Norma was a very selfless person, always asking what she could do for others or how she could help, but never asking for anything in return. She will be missed dearly by all her family and friends.
She is survived by three of her children, Scott (Mary) Eggleston, Dean (Ellen) Eggleston, and Lisa (David) Mitchell; four grandchildren, Danielle (Nick) Voss, Matthew (Veronica) Mitchell, Adam (Tayler) Eggleston, and Alexis (Micah) Block; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by Cindy Harwood, longtime companion of her late son, Mark. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hal, and her son, Mark.
In accordance with her wishes, a private gravesite service will take place. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to CentricaCare Navigators, Meals on Wheels, or Visiting Angels in Norma's memory. To view Norma's Personalized guestbook, please visit
