VAN WINGERDEN - Mr. Nicholas Van Wingerden, aged 86 of Grand Rapids, (one of the King's kids) passed away Saturday, December 12, 2009. Mr. Van Wingerden was preceded in death by his parents, Arie and Nellie DeBruin; and by his brother, John Van Wingerden. Surviving are his wife Carrie; children, Cindy (Steve) Buher and Randy (Vicki) Van Wingerden; sister, Jo Ragsdale; and sisters-in-law, Joan DeGroff and Marilyn Van Wingerden; grandchildren, Gretchen Buher, Chad (Stacey) Buher, and Jenn (John) Kane, Kaeta (Matt) DeHoek, Amy Wingerden, Heather (David) Breen and Tiffany Duyst; and great-grandchild, Loralei DeHoek. Nick worked as a data processing manager at Big Bear Supermarkets, Woodall Industries, and Borman Foods, Inc. in the Detroit area. He was a veteran of World War II; he served in many capacities in Christian Endeavor for over 30 years. He organized an Eastland Mall walking group which included a yearly Labor Day Mackinac Bridge walk. He served as Credit Union president for Farmer Jack, Inc. in Detroit for 30 years and was a faithful hospital volunteer for over 15 years in Detroit and Grand Rapids. His steadfast faith in God, and unfailing love for his family will continue to inspire those who knew him to carry on his legacy. Though we will miss him, we know that he is enjoying the glories of Heaven, and we look forward to the day we will see him again. Funeral services will be held Tuesday 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Raybrook Manor. The family will greet friends and relatives at the Zaagman Memorial Chapel on Monday (tonight) from 7 to 9 p.m. and also on Tuesday from 3 to 4 p.m. prior to the service at Raybrook Manor.
