SLACK, Nelson, E. Kalamazoo

Nelson E. Slack, age 77 of Kalamazoo died Saturday May 14, 2005 in Kalamazoo. He was born January 14, 1928 in Otsego the son of Charles and Emma (Flickinger) Slack. Nelson lived in the Kalamazoo area all of his life and was a utilities supervisor with the City of Portage for 29 years. He served his country in the United States Air Force during WWII and again during the Korean Conflict. Nelson enjoyed camping, riding motorcycles, traveling, mushrooming and deer hunting. He enjoyed life and was a great father to his children. Members of his family include his wife of 55 years, the former Joyce Richardson whom he married on April 8, 1950 and his children and their spouses John E. (Patti) Slack of Portage, Virginia (George) McAllister of Bardstown, KY, Patricia K (Dewey) Rogers of Dublin, GA, Teresa Paddock and her fiancée Rick Louis of Kalamazoo, five grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Nelson was preceded in death by a granddaughter. Friends may spend time with Nelson’s family Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the RDMG Life Story Funeral Home Portage Chapel where services will start at 1 p.m. after the visitation. Nelson will be buried at Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
