Muriel E. Cramer
6/15/1936 - 10/31/2023
Age 87, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2023, at North Woods Village, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on June 15, 1936, in Brown City, MI, the daughter of the late Sterling and Mabel (Main) McMann. She was raised on a small dairy farm in Brown City, where she grew to love animals, especially horses, and learned the value of hard work. Her early passion was working beside her dad on the farm and competing in rodeos. She graduated in 1954 from Brown City High School. Faith was a strong part of her upbringing, and she was raised as a member of the United Brethren Church in Brown City, MI. On November 12, 1955, she married the love of her life Walter Cramer who was from Imlay City, MI, and preceded her in passing in 2015. They shared sixty years together! As a couple they began their days in Lapeer, MI, then moved to Cicero, IL. They moved to the Kalamazoo area in 1959 and a few years later called Comstock home for more than 50 years. Their faith followed with them; they were members of Comstock Christian Reformed Church until it closed. Muriel was currently a member of Heritage Christian Reformed Church. Never one to sit idle, Muriel found employment with the Kalamazoo Christian Schools where she drove bus for forty-four and a half years retiring in February of 2013! Several generations of Christian School students were welcomed each morning by her kind smile. A tradition that continues today by her daughter Lisa. Muriel believed in the value of a Christ centered education, and she was proud that all three of her children and all nine of her grandchildren graduated from Kalamazoo Christian High School. When not working or finding a way to help others, she enjoyed riding bikes, camping, exploring, traveling, working in the yard, and going to the coffee shop with her bus driving friends (and later Sweetwater Donuts was a favorite). Above all Muriel loved being a grandmother and she was active and present in her grandchildren's lives. Muriel leaves behind the legacy of a life lived for Christ, for family and for others and she will be missed by all who love her. She is survived by two daughters, Connie (Stan) Van Der Slik, Lisa (Jim) Bosch; daughter-in-law, Toni Cramer; grandchildren, Julie (Chad) Barnick, Andrea (Devon) Jackson, Tricia (Marcus) Coleman, Courtney (Devonte Brown) Bosch, Allison (Travis) Kapcia, Olivia Bosch, Eric, Emma, and Zachary Cramer, and great-grandchildren, Trinity and Corbin Barnick, Hudson and Grant Jackson, Keldyn, Brooks and Dempsey Coleman, Ellory Kapcia, and Thyra Cramer. Her two sisters and spouses, Arlene (Ted) Wanamaker and Louise (Mitchell) Blanchard; in-laws, Shirley McMann, Rod Linders, Darlene Cramer, John (Betty) Cramer, Dean Cramer, and Allen (Sally) Cramer; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was also preceded in passing by her only brother, Wilbur McMann; a son, Michael Cramer; her in-laws, Albert (Ann) Cramer, Henrietta Linders, John and Bernadene Dykstra, Herm Cramer, Vern and Lorraine Cramer, and Joanne Cramer. The family would like to thank North Woods Village Memory Care and Centrica Care (formerly Hospice of SW Michigan) for their wonderful and compassionate care during Muriel's time living at North Woods Village and in her final days. A funeral service to honor Muriel's faith and life will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023, beginning at 4:00 p.m., at Heritage Christian Reformed Church, 2857 S. 11th St. Kalamazoo, MI, 49009, with Pastor Simon Tuin officiating. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 3:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service. The family would like you to join them immediately following the service for supper in Heritage CRC's Fellowship Hall. Private interment will be held at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park.
