Michael Walton

Walton, Micheal Micheal D. Walton, 76, of Portage, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2023. Mike was born April 4, 1946, in Kalamazoo, the son of James and Lorraine (Hart) Walton. He graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School and went on to earn his bachelor's in biology in 1968 from Western Michigan University, then served his country in the United States Air Force from 1968-72. After his military service, Mike earned a master's degree in biology from Western Michigan University. He was employed by Upjohn and retired from Pharmacia in 2003. Mike was a member of the American Legion, Kalamazoo Rod and Gun Club and was an avid fisherman. On June 4, 1977, on Mackinac Island, Mike was united in marriage to Virginia Ochs, who survives. He is also survived by his son, Michael (Heather), his grandson, Nathan, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Lani Ochs, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, James. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 25, at Avink, McCowen & Secord Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 5975 Lovers Lane, Portage, MI 49002, with a time of visiting from 1:00 until 2:00. Dessert and coffee will be served following the service.
