Merlyn G. (Mert) Myers, aged 70, of Clark Retirement Community, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 22, 2007. He was born in Gillette, Wyoming to Forrest and Therma Myers on January 6, 1937. Surviving are his loving wife of 45 years, Shirley (Gooch) Myers; son, Bruce Myers and daughter, Linda Myers both of Grand Rapids; mother, Therma Myers; sisters, Mary Jean Scollard and Ordella Downs of the state of Wyoming; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Shirley Myers of CA; sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Ron Johnson of Albuquerque; nieces and nephews. Mert was a Chinese (Mandarin) language translator in the U.S. Air Force during the 1958 Taiwan Strait Crisis. He retired from Consumers Power Company after 28 years of service. He enjoyed travel, genealogy, photography and computers. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 4301 Ambrose N.E., Grand Rapids. The family will greet friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Reyers North Valley Chapel, 2815 Fuller N.E., Grand Rapids.
