Melvin L. Ciesa, age 95 of Kalamazoo, died on April 22, 2023, at Storypoint of Portage. He was born August 25, 1927, in Bangor at home on the family farm to Andy and Irene (Zantello) Ciesa. Melvin graduated from Bangor High School in 1945 and served in the U.S. Army. His life's career was as an Union Iron Worker and later a foreman for Miller-Davis Construction until his retirement. On September 24, 1949, he married Lucyann Kress. They were members of St. Joseph's Catholic Parish. Melvin was one of the original founding members "Fab 4" of the Tuesday Toolmen, of S.W. Michigan Senior Services. They were retired construction workers who assisted community members with emergency home repairs. In 2012, Melvin was awarded by the governor of Michigan, "a special tribute" for 15 years of service to the senior community. His family includes his children: Lauren Ciesa, Sharon (Tom) Thompson, and Brian (Carla) Ciesa; his grandchildren: Michael Bogart, Jr., James Bogart, Aubree Thompson, Nathan Thompson, Lukas Thompson, and Alison (Matt) Ciesa-Bommer; his brother Richard Ciesa, and several nieces and nephews. Melvin was preceded in death by his wife Lucyann Ciesa, his parents, his daughter Carol (Michael) Bogart, and his sister-in-law Sue Ciesa. Friends may gather with the family on Friday, May 5, 2023, from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Location, 622 S. Burdick Street, Kalamazoo, where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 1:00 PM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 936 Lake Street-Kalamazoo, with Father Michael Hazard presiding, with an hour of gathering prior to the Mass. Interment will be held Monday, May 8, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South.
