Medford Richard

Medford Garth Richard, age 89, of Three Rivers, Michigan passed away at his home on March 28, 2017. He was born on November 5, 1927, in Holt, MI, the son of Medford Lewis and Carlotta (Secord) Richard. Garth was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. He was a motor carrier officer for the Michigan State Police for 31 years, retiring in 1981. He enjoyed spending time with his family and helping his neighbors. He was also a member of the Crossroads Missionary Church in Mendon, MI.

On October 3, 1954, he married Janet Gladstone and she preceded him in death on September 19, 2002. Surviving are two children, Robin Rowe of Three Rivers and Jim (Pamela) Richard of Vicksburg; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two stepsisters, Helene (Jim) Reck of Lansing and Pat Glidwell of Kentucky; one sister-in-law, Vicki Gladstone of Gregory; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his step-mother, Helen Richard; one sister, Georgene (William) Brockway; two brothers-in-law, Roger “Joe” Gladstone and Bob (Rowena) Gladstone; and two sisters-in-law, Faye (Russell) Roberts and Donna (Mel) Williams.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at the Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home, Stockbridge, with Rev. Kathy Schell officiating. Interment will follow at Plainfield Cemetery, Unadilla Twp. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Crossroads Missionary Church in Mendon, MI, to the benevolent fund.
