Maureen Kaye Coady Brooks, 65, lovingly known as Al, M?, Face, Grandma two-stroke, or Grandma Yum, passed to the other side March 9, 2020, approximately three minutes after being toasted with Patron in Styrofoam cups. She would have probably preferred a Nutty Irishman, but we aren't that cheap. Maureen was born at Lakeview Hospital in Paw Paw, Michigan on January 23, 1955. She is survived by her husband of forty something years Bryan, her smart-ass daughters and her equally smart-ass son-in-laws, Sarah (Bryan) and Jackie (Gary); her siblings, Ed, Kathy (Dave), Kevin (Joan), Sean (Sherry), Sally, her buddy, brother Brian; 14 nieces and nephews, her cats Hester, Molly, and Suhey, her best friend Traci, her two grand dogs and six grand kitties, and the people she loved most in this world her grandson, Asher James and her soon to be born granddaughter Vivienne (Vivi) Kaye. We expect her to haunt us regularly as she loved gossip and knowing everyone's business. Many will miss Maureen.. Her social media was filled with so many memories and love, you would have thought a member of the Beatles passed. Financially, the store Marshall's and her hair stylist Jodi took a major loss. Jodi will need at least six new clients to compensate. Looking at you folks. Maureen loved life. She never met a stranger. This was both good but also bad as you would have to go pry her away from a conversation to avoid extreme embarrassment that may come up in said conversation. She loved to travel, but hated packing and unpacking. She always bribed her son-in-laws with candy, which they gladly accepted in return for her overnight stays. Maureen was known for her infectious cackle, that could be heard across the room. This could mean impending trouble for some. She achieved an exalted state of clumsiness. She had a knack for finding holes in mulch and cracks in sidewalks that didn't exist and trip on them, often resulting in injury. Some actually required hospital visits. She held an uncanny resemblance to Ursula from the Little Mermaid and wore it with pride. She had a love for tacky fashion, crazy nails, the need to read a physical newspaper, an abundance of perfume, her knowledge of completely useless information (and after being checked by Google) it being correct, and her coffee mug she carried everywhere featuring Asher James. She was the queen of scheming. Up for anything, Maureen would often take over a scheme like Danny Ocean and make it her own. This often resulted in the plan being so outrageous it failed. Maureen worked as a nurse, with the elderly, as a stay-at-home mom (her most rewarding and pain-in-the-ass job of them all), as a teacher's assistant, and a short stint in retail, until she realized she was actually losing money instead of making it. A little to enamored with her employee discount, it turned out. When pressed for kind words about her, I am sure all jobs but the stay-at-home mom would have at least one kind thing to say. Maureen's regrets included visiting miniature golf courses, grabbing a jellyfish after her youngest daughter asked her to, drinking too many Pat O'Brien's hurricanes with her eldest daughter, telling everyone she hated "It's a Small World," not being prepared for having a grandson and what a difference diaper changes would mean, attempting to climb Clingmans Dome, an indoor water fight, and never having enough peanut butter on hand. Maureen is reunited with both of her parents Pat and Pauline Coady; her brother Tom; close friends Kathy and Sue; and her kitties Payton. Rosie, Emily, Mama Kitty and Runt. A potluck will be held in her home state of Michigan as soon as her ashes are given to the family. She was never one to miss a party, let alone one held in her honor. Anyone wearing black, (unless it has sparkles, giraffes, or has Harry Styles on it), will be sent home to change into something more fun. In lieu of flowers, her daughters request donations to CHP Defiance Hospice Center, as they took amazing care of her during her short time there. Friends of Feline Rescue was also important to Maureen as two of her kitties came from there. You could also do as she would do and Pay it Forward. Show a random act of kindness or do something loving for someone who needs it. We all could use some extra good karma anyways. Party on Maureen, party on.
