Obituary
Matthew "Matt" Alan Bonine, age 53, passed away unexpectedly on July 2, 2026. He was born on August 4, 1972, in Delaware, Ohio, to Philip and Sandra (Wilson) Bonine.
Matt spent his early childhood in Ohio before moving with his family to Portage, Michigan. He graduated from Portage Central High School and went on to attend Western Michigan University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in biology.
During his young adult years, Matt met the love of his life, Kelly Crowell. Together they shared many wonderful years before marrying and building a family of their own, raising two beloved children who became the center of his world.
Matt worked for many years as a FedEx delivery driver before making the decision to leave the workforce and become a full-time father. It was a role he embraced with tremendous pride and joy. Being present for his children and family was his greatest accomplishment, and he treasured every moment spent with them.
A devoted family man, Matt loved traveling and creating lasting memories together. His adventures took him and his family to destinations including Aruba, Ireland, Maine, Disney World, Las Vegas, Cedar Point, and countless camping trips that became cherished family traditions.
Matt had a lifelong passion for music and loved experiencing live performances. Among his favorite concert memories were attending Lollapalooza, Riot Fest, and seeing his favorite band, U2.
An avid movie enthusiast, Matt appreciated all things cinema. Family movie nights were among his favorite pastimes, and every Tuesday he gathered with close friends for their longstanding movie night tradition, where one person selected the week's film and the only rule was that there was never any judgment of the choice. Whether the movie was a classic, a hidden gem, or something completely unexpected, the fellowship was what mattered most. Matt especially loved science fiction and was a devoted fan of Star Wars, Star Trek, and Marvel franchises. He even dreamed of one day writing a screenplay of his own.
More than anything, Matt will be remembered for his generous heart. He was the person friends, neighbors, and family members could always count on, whether they needed help with a simple task or faced a more difficult challenge. His quiet selflessness touched countless lives, and many adults and children alike have stories of his kindness, willingness to lend a hand, and unwavering support.
Matt is survived by his loving wife Kelly Crowell, children Ayden and Declan, parents Philip and Sandra Bonine, siblings Mindy Bonine and her spouse David Papas and Holly Bonine and her spouse William Stuts; and nieces and nephews Aurora, Celeste, and Orion Papas, Wilson Alexander and Genevieve Stutz.
