Mary VanderWeele

Mary Jane VanderWeele, a devoted Christian, loving mother and wife, died at the age of 81 on July 28, 2019, at Bronson Methodist Hospital. She was born May 26, 1938, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Paul and Ethel (Smith) Messany. Mary graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1957. Mary married Robert VanderWeele on May 27, 1961. They were members at Southridge Reformed Church since 1966, where Mary volunteered for many activities. Mary was a dental assistant in the Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids area for many years and worked at Kindercare on Oakland Drive for five years. Her family includes her husband Robert VanderWeele; her children: Robert (Chris) VanderWeele and Robin (Wesley) Lentz; her grandchildren: Elena Lentz, Riley Lentz, Elijah Lentz, Marielle Lentz, Easton Lentz, Andrew VanderWeele, and Kyan VanderWeele. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Dr. Frank Messany. Visitation will be held from 10 AM to 11 AM on Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at Southridge Reformed Church, 6726 Texas Drive, Kalamazoo, where her service will follow at 11 AM with Pastor Mark Vanderson. Private graveside services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to Alzheimer's Association.
