Bateman, Mary Lou 5/24/1931 - 4/6/2016 Richland Age 84, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, with her family at her side. Mary Lou was born in Wyoming Twp., on May 24, 1931, the daughter of the late Charles and Rhea (Morse) Barnum. Mary Lou was a woman of faith, love and kindness. She put her heart and soul into all that she did, and always made a positive difference for others. During her career as a Registered Occupational Therapist, Mary started the OT Department at Bronson. Mary was an active member of Gull Lake Area Community Church. She loved to sing and play the piano and was a member of the choir; she was also a Certified Stephen Minister. Mary loved to make friends and stay active. She enjoyed playing tennis, cake decorating, coordinating annual CROP walks, member of Ladies of the Lake, and spending time at Gull Lake Country Club. She also sang with the Sweet Adelines and was a 4-H Sewing Leader. Above all Mary loved her family and was a foundation for raising her children and grandchildren. She leaves them with the memories and legacy of a life well lived, and she will be dearly missed. On August 8, 1959, she married the love of her life, Dr. William T. Bateman who preceded her in passing on August 30, 2011. She was also preceded in passing by a son, Russell William Bateman; siblings, Richard "Dick" Barnum, Ethelyn Robinson and Charles "Bud" Barnum. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Barbara (Richard) Mattingly, Thomas (Janet) Bateman, Charles (Debra) Bateman, Julie (John) Vandervoort, Maria (William) Osborne; thirteen grandchildren: Ryan, Michael and Alexander Mattingly, Logan, Elizabeth, Micah, and Aliyah Bateman, Rebecca, Jake and Benjamin Vandervoort, Stephanie, Laura and Matthew Osborne; nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at 10:00 AM, at Living Hope Community Church, 9292 East CD Ave., Richland, MI 49083, with Rev. Todd TerAvest officiating. A memorial visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, April 15, 2016, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Private interment will be held. Memorials may be made to Living Hope Community Church or Heartland Hospice, c/o the funeral home.
