Mary Lampen-Crowell born February 1, 1955 transitioned back to God May 29.

Mary was a humble, highly creative and talented woman whose quiet energy and spirit impacted all those she met. At her core, she had a spiritual foundation that was felt whenever she was present. Never one for small talk, Mary wanted to uncover life's most important topics and go deep.

Born and raised in northeast Grand Rapids to Bob and Fran Lampen, Mary grew up as a tomboy always outside playing barefoot in the woods with a love for nature and animals. She was the youngest of three children with Mike and Gail her older siblings. She graduated form Creston High School in 1973. She married Dan Dykhuis in 1975 and had two amazing children, Shane and Brooke.

She moved to Kalamazoo in 1985 to finish her college education at Western Michigan University as a single parent of two. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with a focus on graphic design in 1987

She married again in 1987 to Chris Lampen-Crowell and had a son, Stuart, whose early childhood was spent on Grove St. in the K College neighborhood. Mary's neighborhood friendships around Grove grew into wonderful lifelong relationships which she treasured.

Mary's life was deeply rooted in her spiritual journey, her family, her health and art. She was gifted with an intuitive awareness of how to design space that created beauty and energy. She understood light and texture so that the places she lived and worked were inspiring.

Mary was an artist in every way. However, she selflessly put her paint brushes aside to raise kids and support Chris as they started Gazelle Sports.

While working at Gazelle Sports, she designed the Holland store, Kalamazoo expansion, the Grand Rapids expansion, and the coolest store ever in Downtown Kalamazoo, Piranha Alley.

Mary focused on her health like a profession. She dealt with pain issues that traditional medicine didn't treat. So she researched and read a vast amount. She became highly literate with women's health problems and found many answers on her own.

Mary became Grammie to six wonderful grandchildren as Brooke married Adam Menconi and had Jordyn and Sienna, Shane married Anne Zuelke and had Fred and Dash and Stu married Caitlin Eberly and had Oakley and Shiloh.

In 2022, Mary and Chris were blessed to purchase a home on Grand Traverse Bay where Mary walked the beach daily. The time spent walking the beach, watching sunsets and playing in the water were magical and fulfilling to her on every level. She turned a second floor bedroom into her art studio and was able to watch the colors of the sky, clouds, and water dance with each other.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday July 8 at 3PM at Unity of Kalamazoo, 1204 Whites Rd.

In lieu of flowers, please remember Mary by making a donation to Inner Light Ministries, ILM.org, or the spiritual organization that supports you.
