Mary Ann Durocher

Durocher, Mary Ann L. 10/26/1921 - 3/22/2022 Kalamazoo Mary Ann Durocher passed away on March 22, 2022, at the age of 100. If you ever met Mary Ann Durocher, Kiki to her family, chances are you remember her. She had a gift for making an indelible impression on people with her strong opinions, keen wit, and sharp tongue. Kiki was the second of five children born to Louise and Otto Durocher on October 26, 1921, and was raised on the west side of Detroit. She was smart and motivated. She got her bachelor's degree from Marygrove College and was among the few women accepted into the University of Michigan's medical program. She earned a master's in nursing from Yale University, a masters in bacteriology from the University of Michigan, and completed coursework for a PhD in pediatric nursing at Michigan. She worked as a nurse, taught at the university level, and spent most of her career at Upjohn in Kalamazoo, where she kept doctors informed of the latest innovations and research in pharmaceuticals. Toward the end of her 100-year life, she often spoke about how eager she was to be reunited with her mother in heaven (though she did suggest someone bury her with a fire extinguisher just in case). She is also preceded in death by her father, brothers Charles and Robert, sister Genoveve (Durocher) Ash, nephews Leonard Ash and Mark Durocher, and niece Nancy (Holtgreive) Ahmann. She is survived by her sister Joan (Durocher) Holtgreive, her loving niece and tireless champion, Maryjo (Holtgreive) Lemanski, plus 17 nieces, nephews and their families.
