Obituary
Mary Ann Adams (VanBruggen), age 91, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025, in Traverse City, Michigan. At the time of her passing, she was residing in Wellston, Michigan.
Born on October 2, 1933, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Mary was the beloved daughter of Joseph and Marie VanBruggen. Her life was marked by deep devotion to family, enduring friendships, and a joyful embrace of life's simple pleasures.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, David L. Adams Jr.; her brother, Joseph VanBruggen; sons-in-law John Bright and Gary Young; and her dear friend of sixty years, "Ine" Lumbard.
Throughout her life, Mary found joy in both work and play. While raising a family as a homemaker, they cherished what they fondly called "girl time"-whether picking grapes in Paw Paw, cleaning bulbs at Bushouse Farms in Parchment, or planting seeds at greenhouses in Comstock. These tasks were never seen as chores but rather moments of connection and laughter shared with friends.
Mary had a passion for home and interior design-a love they shared with her husband as they worked together on homes he built in Parchment. Autumn held a special place in Mary's heart. The fall season brought cherished traditions like hunting trips to northern Michigan and fishing excursions to Canada-always capped off with an "after hour beverage" that added warmth to the memories.
Later in life, Mary delighted in hosting cookouts and get-togethers that brought loved ones together around food and laughter. She also enjoyed feeding wildlife near her home-though chasing away the "darn squirrels" from the feeders became its own kind of game. Whether it was this playful pastime or visits to LRCR (Little River Casino Resort), Mary embraced each moment with enthusiasm.
Mary is lovingly remembered by her daughters Cindy Bright and Chris Young; grandson Jason Brinkhuis and his wife Casey; grandsons Joey Brinkhuis and Jeff Brinkhuis; many great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Rene Sausaman; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
This tribute offers only a glimpse into the vibrant spirit that was Mary Ann Adams-a wonderful mother, grandmother, friend, and companion through life's seasons. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew them.
