Rutgers, Marvin D. Kalamazoo Age 90, passed away at his home on Wednesday morning, April 5, 2023, with his family at his side. Marvin was born in Holland, MI, on April 1, 1933, the son of Gerald and Jennie (Weaver) Rutgers. On December 18, 1954, he married Alma "Ollie" Beutler who survives him. They had enjoyed 68 years of marriage. Marvin was an avid Morel mushroom hunter. He loved to golf, bowl, fish and hunt. After his retirement he and Ollie enjoyed spending their winters in Texas. Marvin was a direct descendant of the 1847 pioneer founders of Holland, MI. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served as an usher and on the beautification committee. He proudly served his nation in the U. S. Navy. Nothing was more important to him than his family whom he loved very much and who will miss him. Besides his wife, Marvin is survived by a daughter, Denise (Rick) Bedell of Kalamazoo; sons, Ron (Teri) Rutgers of Kalamazoo and Kyle Rutgers of Kalamazoo; grandchildren, Benjamin (Rebecca) Rutgers, Christopher (Ariel) Rutgers, Rebeca (John) Heinsen, Alex (Courtney) Boyce, Shaun (Brittany) Rutgers; great-grandchildren, Adriana, Carter, Parker, Adalynn, Ronan, and Aria; sisters, Sylvia Roon, Marilyn (Floyd) Everling, Sharon (Dan) Kadwell, Shirley (Mel) Stephens; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and countless friends. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mark Rutgers; son-in-law, David Boyce; brother, Jason Rutgers. A service in witness to Marvin's life and faith will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 2122 Bronson, Blvd. Friends may call on the family on Monday, April 10, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home, 917 S. Burdick St., Kalamazoo, and for one hour prior to the service at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. Marvin will be laid to rest at Ft. Custer National Cemetery with full military honors.
