Margie L. Gentry (VerHage), age 78 of Kalamazoo, Michigan, went to be with her Savior on March 6, 2026. She was born on January 5, 1948, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Evert and Tina (Triestram) VerHage. Margie was part of the first graduating class of Portage Northern High School in 1966 and received her associate's degree from Davenport College in 1987. For 20 years, Margie owned and operated the Italian Village Restaurant alongside her husband Peter Candela. She also owned a Baskin Robbins location in Southland Mall during the 1980s. After leaving the food business, she worked for 23 years in Human Resources for the local news service WWMT in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Margie led a life devoted to her Lord and Savior. She was a lifetime member of Bethany Reformed Church in Kalamazoo, where she was very active in the church choir, women's Bible study, and taught junior church, children's choir, and Sunday School. For the past few years, Margie attended Calvary Bible Church.

Family was very important to Margie. She had three daughters, and was an amazing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She especially loved to attend her grandchildren's sporting events and activities.

On August 26, 2020, she married Rodney "Terry" Gentry. They enjoyed traveling to visit family and attending church together.

She is survived by her husband Terry Gentry; her daughters: Laura (William II) Maury, Holly (Ronald) Armstrong, and Amy (Jeff) Holmes; her grandchildren: Phillip Withrow, William Maury III, Christopher (Trisha) Withrow, Jenna Maury, Allison (Andrew) Geoghan, Samantha Searles, Emily Withrow, Austin Searles, and Aidan Colwell; her great-grandchildren: Charlotte, Cameron and Louie; her step-grandchildren: Zakary (Kelsey) Armstrong and Alexander (Kaela) Armstrong; her stepchildren: Kary (Jesse) Olsen, Tara (Todd) Korpi, and Scott (Megan) Gentry, as well as several step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Evert and Tina VerHage, her husband Pete Candela, and her sister Carol Fricke.

Friends may gather with her family on Wednesday, March 11, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes at 3926 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49009. Friends may also visit the family and pay their respects from 10:00-11:00 AM, on Thursday, March 12, at Bethany Reformed Church, 1833 South Burdick Street, Kalamazoo. The funeral service will follow, at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. David Zomer officiating. A committal service will follow at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South.
