Obituary
Margarita de la Luz Jensen, age 46, passed away at her home on April 4, 2026. She was born in El Paso, TX on September 25, 1979, the daughter of Fredrick Jensen and Maria (Barraza) Monosso. Margarita was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Her smile, laughter and positivity brought joy to those around her. Raised in the Upper Peninsula, she gained a love for the natural beauty of this world. She had a lovely voice, a true gift from God. While in high school she was a member of an opera company.
She worked hard from an early age and knew the value of dedication and honesty. She spent a summer after high school working on Mackinac Island, memories she held dear. She would hold several other jobs throughout her life making an impact and memories at each. She enjoyed being a nanny in the same neighborhood as John Travolta and Matt Damon. She would often remark that Matt Damon drove past on his golf cart in the neighborhood. Margarita worked at Orlando Bloomindales as an event planner and in luxury retail management as a personal shopper, helping families including Shaquille O'Neal's girlfriend to update their home.
In 2005, she moved to Orlando and enjoyed the Florida sun. She returned to Michigan in 2020 to be closer to family. In 2021, she began working at Willis Law in Kalamazoo as an intake coordinator and managing the couriers (many of her nieces and nephews), allowing her to make a positive impact on the lives of others and to grow closer to her family. Most days Margarita would spend her lunchtime playing games, such as Wordle, with her nephew and co-workers.
She had many hobbies and pastimes which brought her joy. She was fond of murder podcasts and mysteries, often joking that the victims were usually described as "lighting up a room" and the need to never do that. Margarita failed. She lit up every room she entered with her kindness, loving manner, humor, and infectious laughter. Laughter that was impossible to not join.
Margarita and her sister, Corrina, shared a rare and beautiful friendship, calling each other daily to discuss the kids, texting incredibly inappropriate and stupid memes and TikToks to each other, crying on each other's shoulders, and sharing hours of heartfelt laughter over the ridiculous happenings and adventures that life brought them through the years.
She had a deep passion and love for her late rescue dogs, "Murphy" and "Coco." They were more than her pets. They were her children, her constant companions. She carried photos of them and spoke about them to others. She affectionately called them her "dumpster dogs" after rescuing Murphy from a dumpster and rescuing Coco from a box in a mall parking lot.
Margarita answered to several nicknames (mostly given to her by her sister). The name she cherished the most and wore with pride was Oota. A name given to her by her nieces and nephews. The kids were her favorite people in the world. Maria (Peanut) Willis, Patrick (Bud) Willis, Frankie (Kiki) Willis, Christopher (Just Kiss) Willis, Walter (Wally) Willis, Lucy (Lu) Willis, Matthew (Choo Choo) Willis, Mariana Jensen, Raiden Jensen, Charlotte Jensen, Reese Jensen, Leahni (Nani) Jensen, Kaipo Jensen, John Paul (JP) Jensen, Moritza (Mochi) Jensen, She also had bonus nieces and nephews, Isabella Willis, Christian Willis, Mary Willis, Joey Willis, Therese Willis, Gabby Willis, Tyson (Nugget) Buhl, and Rylan (RyRy) Smith. Margarita would attend "Grandparents Day" at the school for the kids when their actual grandparents got too old to attend, just so they had someone there for them. She was their biggest cheerleader and was fiercely protective of them. Margarita would go to the ends of the earth for any of them.
Above all Margarita loved her family. She will be remembered by her family and held in the palm of God's hand for eternity. She is survived by her loving mother, Maria (Larry) Monosso; siblings, Fred (Andrea) Jensen, Corrina (Shaun) Willis, Thomas (Davina) Jensen, and Brad Jensen; and her uncle Ted Jensen, and sibling-like Aunt Liza Garcia. She was preceded in passing by her father Fredrick Jensen, grandfather Walter (Whitey) Jensen, and Grandmother Phyllis Jensen.
Cremation will take place and a memorial to honor and celebrate her life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to Animal Rescue Project c/o the funeral home. Friends and family may share a condolence message online at www.joldersma-klein.com.
