Margaret Catherine (Hooper) "Peg" Flach, age 94, died Thursday, April 7, 2016 in Boulder, CO. Peg, the daughter, of John and Iva Mae (Phillips) Hooper, was born in Detroit, MI on April 20, 1921; was a Gull Lake resident; a 1938 graduate of Kellogg High School in Augusta, MI and received her Nursing Degree from Battle Creek Community College. She was employed by the Fort Custer State Home for Children and later, the Kalamazoo State Hospital. Her favorite activities were long walks, gardening and sewing. In her later years she and daughter, Mary made hundreds of quilts for charity. She enjoyed travel with her children to Scotland, Alaska, the Caribbean and even, Antarctica. Peg played golf, did cross-country skiing and loved swimming in Gull Lake. She loved animals and had many dogs during her lifetime. Peg was united in marriage to Vincent S. Flach of Augusta in Kalamazoo, MI on September 16, 1940 and he sadly preceded her in death on January 1, 1998. Surviving are two daughters, Mary (Dr. Lloyd) Gelman of Boulder, CO & Margaret (Allen) Gibbard of Bremerton, WA; her son, Patrick Flach of Derby, KS and by four precious grandchildren, Bryan Flach, Renee (TJ) Fears, Benjamin Gibbard and Megan Gibbard. Peg was also preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Martha Clark in 1987. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 14th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, 12648 East D Avenue, Augusta, MI 49012 with Father James F. Adams, Pastor, Celebrant and Deacon Michael A. Carl, Assisting. Interment will follow next to her beloved husband, Vince at Yorkville Cemetery, Gull Lake. Immediately following the committal, family and friends will return to the St. Ann Social Hall to continue Peg's life celebration with a time of fellowship and a luncheon. Peg's family will greet friends on Wednesday, April 13th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel, 9170 East D Avenue (M-89), where the Parish Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Peg's honor may be directed to the donor's choice.
