Obituary
Lynn Vincent Rivette, 86, of Stevensville, Michigan, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 20, 2024. Born in Paw Paw, Michigan, to Esther Alice Eager Rivette and Lionel Rivette on October 13, 1937, Lynn led a full life marked by love, service, and family.
Lynn was an accomplished athlete at Paw Paw High School. At the age of thirteen, he experienced "love at first sight" when he met Anita St. Pierre. The two were married on May 10, 1958, and shared 62 devoted years together until Anita's passing in 2020. Their marriage was a testament to their deep connection and unwavering commitment. They had two children, Michele and Tom Rivette, who were the light of Lynn's life. Nothing brought him more joy than being a good husband and father. Lynn began his career in law enforcement as a police officer at the State Police Post in Paw Paw before moving to Stevensville in 1966 to serve with the Benton Township Police Department. After his law enforcement career, Lynn embarked on a successful second career with Combined Insurance Company, where he was promoted to the level of District Manager. He found the company's positive mental attitude training to be profoundly influential, shaping his approach to life's challenges. Lynn faced adversity with resilience and humor. Lynn had a remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life and was cherished for his wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed bowling, gardening, and cooking, especially grilling and putting together unusual combinations of foods that somehow always tasted delicious. His sense of humor, kindness, and dedication to his loved ones were evident in everything he did, from his devoted visits to Anita during her time in a nursing home during COVID, to his unwavering love for his family. He loved his cat, Pockets, who was his companion after Anita's death. An avid fan of Notre Dame, Lynn was rarely seen without his Notre Dame hat.
Lynn is survived by his daughter, Michele Rivette of Ann Arbor; his son, Thomas and his wife Amanda Rivette; four grandchildren, Lauren and Mikey Rivette of Stevensville, Maia Rivette of Ann Arbor, and Miah Fannon of Stevensville; his sisters, Cheryl (Rivette) Weatherford of Tennessee, Sharon Rivette, and Patty Rivette (Colorado); his step-mother, Pat Vaughn (Virginia); and his step-siblings, David Rivette (Lawton, MI) and Tracy (Rivette) Miura (Virginia). Lynn's legacy of love, positivity, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and community.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan, 5400 S. Niles Rd., St. Joseph, Michigan 49085.
