Lila Jean (Brindley) Dickerson, 94, of Bloomingdale, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at her home in Bloomingdale. Lila was born November 28, 1924, in Cheshire Township, the daughter of Verlin N. and Allyene W. (Kent) Brindley. She spent her childhood on the family farm with her 11 siblings. In 1942, Lila graduated from Bloomingdale High School and worked as a secretary at the Bloomingdale Oil Refinery. She married her high school sweetheart, Stephen F. Dickerson, on May 7, 1944, and together they moved to the military base in Pocatello, Idaho. After the war ended, they moved back to Bloomingdale where she helped manage the family farm, Dickersons' Ups and Downs, in dairy and seed production. Lila was a school bus driver and mathematics aide at Bloomingdale Public Schools, 4-H Leader, member of the Bloomingdale Christian Church, and a charter member of both the Bloomingdale Area Historical Association and the Bloomingdale Area Schools Foundation. Her hobbies included: gardening, sewing, cooking, canning, and most enjoyably visiting with family and friends - all while bearing and raising seven children of her own. Survivors include: her seven children - Douglas (Chris) of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Janet (Jerry Larson) Dickerson of Allegan, Melvin of Bloomingdale, William (Susan) of Bloomingdale, Thomas (Pam) of Bloomingdale, Lynn (Margie) of Allegan, Ann (Steven) Jacus of Allegan; 16 grandchildren -Todd, Kristin DeKam, Stephen, Joshua, Jonathan, Christopher, Wesley, Ian, Kurtis, Alissa, Jacob Brown, Jenny Sheneman, Caleb, Victoria "Ava" Jacus, Isabella "Grace" Jacus, and August Jacus; numerous great-grandchildren; one sister, Gail Brindley of Allegan; one sister-in-law, Lorraine Heckman of Allegan; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband; her parents; five brothers, David, Elmer, Dean, Arthur, and Lynn; and five sisters, Ella, Elva, Verna, Ruby, and Joyce. The family will meet friends on Monday, July 22 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Bloomingdale Christian Church where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 23 at 9:30 AM, with Pastor Greg Carlson officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Spring Grove Cemetery, Bloomingdale. The family suggests memorials be made to the Bloomingdale Area Historical Association, Bloomingdale Area Schools Foundation or Wings of Hope Hospice Allegan.
