Leona Slye

Leona Catherine Slye, age 72, passed away May 18, 2021. Leona was born March 12, 1949 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Herb and Loretta (Lambeseder) Gleesing and was a lifelong area resident. She was employed for over 30 years with Comstock Public Schools, retiring as food service supervisor at Comstock Northeast Middle School. Leona was an avid Detroit Tigers and Lions fan; loved and excelled at playing all kinds of cards; and enjoyed watching her favorite TV shows (Dr. Phil, Maury & Crime Documentaries) The most important part of her life was family, especially her children & grandchildren, including all the other children & grandchildren she considered as hers. Surviving are three children: Michelle Perry, William (Nicole) Gibson, Jr. & Matthew Gibson; grandchildren: Joshua, Bryce, Sanah, Alyssa, Kristin, Ethan, Kylie, Garrett, Anthony, Gennie, Matthew & Myles; a brother Don Gleesing; and several nieces & nephews. Leona was preceded in death by her parents; by her daughter Amanda Stafford on April 7, 2021; and by siblings: Carol Junker, Roger Gleesing, Bruce Gleesing & Dale Gleesing. There will be a limited numbers visitation from 3-5pm & 6-8pm on Friday, May 21st at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Burial & Cremation Services, 622 S. Burdick Street. Due to current state restrictions, 25 persons will be allowed in the building at one time, social distancing and face masks required. Private family funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday with a Zoom Link to be provided. Memorials may be directed to Grace Hospice, or West Michigan Cancer Center.
