Laura (Gates) Thompson

Laura (Gates) Thompson of Paw Paw, MI.

Laura was born in Charlevoix Michigan. Her family moved to Frankfort MI. Then down state to Rockford and finally to Kalamazoo where she graduated from Loy Norrix High School in 1963. After her children were in full-time grade school Laura went to work in the medical field. She worked most of her career as the office manager for Roger Smith, MD. She felt blessed to have worked with some very wonderful people. Upon retiring Laura remarried and moved to Kansas City, KS to be with her husband Wayne Thompson. Not long after that the opportunity to relocate back to Michigan brought them home and they settled in Paw Paw. They both loved living there and the community that surrounded them.

Laura went peacefully to the Lord Jesus Sunday February 4, she was 79 years old. Preceding her in death were her parents William (Bill) & Mary Gates, her husband Wayne Thompson, Wayne's son Marcus Thompson and her sister Barbara Hainer. Surviving is her daughter Staci Emery (Jim), son Jeff De Young (Misty), Wayne's son Greg Thompson (Marjory), her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many nieces & nephews.

At her request Laura was cremated. A graveside memorial will take place in the Spring when she will be laid to rest with her husband at Maple Grove Cemetery in Kalamazoo MI. If you wish in lieu of flowers you may send a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis TN.
