Obituary
BOELEMA - Larry J. Boelema, age 60, of Spring Lake, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2009 at the Heartwood Lodge Hospice Residence. He was born February 15, 1949 in Grand Rapids to Jack and Senetta (Vander Vennen) Boelema, and he married the former Kathy Geisel on August 20, 1971 in Grand Rapids. Mr. Boelema was a 1971 graduate of Calvin College and was self-employed for Massachusetts Mutual as a financial advisor and formerly employed as a junior high science teacher at Grand Haven Christian School. An avid golfer and hunter, Larry also enjoyed working as both a basketball referee and baseball umpire for many years. Survivors include his loving wife, Kathy; two sons, Jared Boelema of Grand Haven and Stephanie Sells of Muskegon, and Darren Boelema and Tarin Crandell of LeRoy, MI; three grandchildren, Christopher, Elizabeth, and Wyatt; one brother, Glen (Janet) Boelema of British Columbia; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Marty (Christine) Geisel, Joanne (Larry) Kerkstra, Bernie (Pat) Geisel, Freda (Gerry) Velzen, John (Diana) Geisel, Ruth Potts, Dorothy (Greg) Goff, Bill (Cynthia) Geisel, and Helen (Jeff) Burman. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law, Steve Potts. A time for remembering and celebrating Larry's life will be held between 2 and 4 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Spring Lake Christian Reformed Church.
