Obituary
Age 90, was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on November 6, 1935, to the late Ivar and Gladys (Burnham) Anderson. Larry passed away peacefully at home on May 16, 2026, under the loving care of his daughter, Linda, family, and hospice.
He grew up on the city's Eastside, graduating from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1953. He enjoyed spending time at the Dairy Bar, playing softball, and riding his bike to Rockwell Park or Dekes Pond. Those memories stayed with him throughout his life.
Larry's first job was working as a painter and decorator in his father's business, where he learned the value of hard work and dedication. He later began his career with Michigan Bell as a lineman and eventually retired from Ameritech as a repairman. Larry always enjoyed sharing stories from his years at Michigan Bell and talking about the coworkers and experiences that became such an important part of his life.
On May 12, 1956, Larry married the love of his life, Marge Houtcamp. Together they built a life centered on family, laughter, friendship, and simple joys.
One of Larry's favorite places was the cottage on Crooked Lake in Delton, which he and his brothers built for their families to enjoy together through the years. Summers there were filled with boating, water skiing, fishing, cards, horseshoes, and laughter. Larry especially treasured this time.
Larry and Marge spent most of their married life raising their family in Comstock, Michigan. Their home life was full of activity, with neighborhood friendships, and evenings often spent walking, playing ping-pong, or bowling with friends and family.
Larry took tremendous pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren and loved supporting them in their sports, businesses, school activities, and events. Some of his most treasured memories were the years spent traveling with the parents and families of Eastern Michigan volleyball players, sharing in the excitement and friendships created along the way.
After raising their family, Larry and Marge moved to Cooper Township where they quickly came to appreciate the friendship and kindness of their new neighbors. Larry especially enjoyed time spent with friends at the Cooper Café, meals with Dennis and Susan, or sunsets at Gun Lake with Norman and Beverly.
In quieter moments, Larry could often be found watching Jeopardy, Judge Judy or cheering on Caitlin Clark. He loved to build a fire, listen to music, play catch, a game of PIG, or bounce out a tune of My Little Margie on the Lowrey organ.
He will be remembered for his steady presence, sense of humor, love of family, loyalty to friends, and the countless stories and memories he shared with all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjory, on September 9, 2012. He is survived by his children, Steve (Debbie) Anderson, Linda Fricke, Laura Evans, and Sherry (Paul) Boughton; grandchildren, Kristopher (Kaycee) Anderson, Jeffrey Anderson, Nicholas (Katarina) Anderson, Amanda Fricke, Andrew Evans, Rachel (Matt) Presta, Thomas Boughton, and Carly Boughton; three great-grandchildren, Connor, Mackenzie, and Maximus; and his brothers, Norman (Beverly) Anderson and Dennis (Susan) Anderson.
