Kenneth "Ken" Schoonbeck, of Kalamazoo, MI.

Went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ early Thursday morning, February 8, 2024. Ken was born on October 18, 1938, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to the late, Henry and Cora (Zantjer) Schoonbeck. After high school, Ken attended business school, where he acquired the skills to become an accountant. He was an accountant for General Motors for 31 years, and for his church for many years. On June 22, 1962, Ken married his best friend, Gera (Van Ingen), whom he spent 61 loving years with. Ken was very involved in the church as both Elder and Deacon for a number of years. He was also an accomplished church organist and especially enjoyed playing at home on a concert organ, which he had restored. Outside of work and church, Ken was an automobile enthusiast and found a lot of happiness while boating and being around the water. Surviving Ken is his wife, Gera; children, Kimberly Blok, Stephen (Kelly) Schoonbeck, Joel (Linda) Schoonbeck; grandchildren, Braden (Sarah) Blok, Kristin (Dan) Hinkle, Jenica (Andrew) Schipper, Travis (Shadriana) Blok, Brennon (Abagail) Blok, Jeffrey (Cameron) Schoonbeck, Kenneth (Jeannie) Schoonbeck, Ethan Schoonbeck, Jeanna Schoonbeck, Faith (Eli) Kilian, Cassandra Schoonbeck, Caleb Schoonbeck; sister, Marjorie (Edward) Staron; brother-in-law, Donald Spitters; 15 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents, sister, MaryAnn Spitters, and son-in-law, Bruce Blok. Visitation will be held at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49009, on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, from 6pm to 8pm, and also at Covenant United Reformed Church, 3724 Lovers Lane, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49001, on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, from 10am to 11am. Funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at church at 11am, Wednesday, February 14, 2024. Graveside services will be at 2pm at Mount Ever Rest Memorial Park South, 3941 S. Westnedge Ave, Kalamazoo, MI. In lieu of flowers consider a donation to Covenant United Reformed Church or Alternatives of Kalamazoo.
