Obituary
It is with deep sadness and loving remembrance that we announce the passing of Kendra Hamman (Shultz), who died peacefully on June 3, 2026, while in hospice care in Jackson, Michigan. She was 59 years old.
Kendra was larger than life in the best way. Her presence filled a room, and her energy, humor, and unmistakably big personality made her impossible to forget. She loved bringing people together, sharing stories, and creating meaningful relationships. Her curiosity about the world inspired a love of travel and exploring different cultures, and wherever she went, she built connections and friendships with ease. She had a remarkable gift for connection; rarely far from a phone conversation, Kendra cherished staying connected with the people she loved. She had a natural ability to make others feel seen and her laughter and genuine interest in others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
If you knew Kendra, you knew about her deep and special bond with animals. Kendra had an extraordinary connection with her dogs and her recent cat –– who she swears found her, not the other way around –– and had her own unique language with each of them. Kendra was also a passionate advocate for those recovering from addiction and in need of housing, spending her career working in affordable housing and recovery residences.
Kendra was spiritual by nature and found a connection in a world or life that can't be seen. She often shared her intuitive insights with those around her, connecting with crystals, nature, and the world beyond perception. She was a gifted massage therapist, using her touch to help heal patients. Kendra's vibrant spirit, unforgettable presence, and boundless love for people and animals will always be remembered and deeply missed.
Above all, Kendra was a devoted mother. Her daughter, Desiree, and son, Garth, were the pride and joy of her life. She poured her heart into creating a rich, meaningful, and adventurous life for them, always seeking opportunities to expose them to new places, cultures, and experiences.
Kendra is survived by her daughter, Desiree Cougill, who was a source of immense pride and love throughout her life and preceded in death by her beloved son Garth Cougill.
