Kenneth Elwin Schmidt, 79, of Battle Creek, MI, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Medilodge of Marshall. He was born June 12, 1944 in Kalamazoo, MI the son of Elwin and Ada (VanSweeden) Schmidt. Ken served in the U.S. Air Force.
He married Rebecca Schultz on October 11, 1975 in Alamo Township, MI. He retired from Ralston Foods after 31 years of service. Ken loved attending his grandsons' activities and spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed golfing and going to dinner with his retirement group. Ken and Becky volunteered for the Animal Rescue Project, fostering over 200 puppies. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Becky Schmidt; daughter, Missy (Steve Roossien) Ruud; son, Mike (Tiffany) Schmidt; grandchildren: Jason (Kristin) Ruud, Nathan (Maria) Ruud, and Tyler Schmidt; 4 great grandchildren; and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carol Sue Tuin.
Visitation will be held at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service on Sunday, June 9, 2024 from 4:00-6:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 10, 2024 at 12:30 PM at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service. Burial will be at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI. Memorial tributes may be made to Animal Rescue Project in Kalamazoo, MI.
