Karen attended Kalamazoo Central High School, Swarthmore College, Wayne State Law and graduated from University of Michigan Law.
She practiced as an attorney: she was the first female Assistant Prosecutor in Kalamazoo County, an Administrative Law Judge for the State of Michigan, and in retirement an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association.
She was mother to Erik (Heather) Jacobs and Jon Jacobs, grandmother to Colin and Adelyn, sister to Pat Huston and Michael (Susan) Huston; aunt to Amanda Burness (Gerald) Dowd and Megan Burness (Jordan) Yin, and great aunt to Truman Dowd and Evan Yin. She is the daughter of Robert A. and Jean Benedict Huston. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her niece, Megan.
Karen has always, always been a woman of force, strength, conviction and determination. Peace was never more hard-won.
On Saturday, December 21, 2024, friends of the family are invited to attend a Memorial Gathering at the Kalamazoo House, 447 West South Street, Kalamazoo Michigan, from 3-6:00pm.
