Julia, the daughter of Joseph and Lenna E (Hilliard) Panse was born in Kalamazoo, MI on December 20, 1939. She graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1958. She went on to Western Michigan University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1962. Most of her career as a medical technologist was spent at Borgess Hospital where after 35 years she retired in 2004. She was a member of the Gull Lake United Methodist Church of Richland and the Zephyrhills (FL) United Methodist Church and thoroughly enjoyed singing in both of their choirs. Her other interests included gardening, canning, traveling, and camping with her family. She was a Bible scholar and a prolific painter. She loved going to Bronco football games and musical performances of all kinds. Julia's faith in God and love for her family were the priorities in her life. Julia was united in marriage to Timothy J. Morgan in Kalamazoo, MI on August 4, 1961. He sadly preceded her in death on June 12, 2004. She then was united in marriage to David H. Powell in Richland, MI on November 14, 2009. He also preceded her in death in December 2018. She is survived by four sons: David (Carol) Morgan of Richland, MI, Jonathan Morgan of Kalamazoo, MI, Stephen (Dawn) Morgan of Richland, MI, and Brian (Amie) Morgan of Portage, MI. Also surviving; two step-daughters Phyllis (Keith) McConnell of Enon, OH, Janine (Rolfe) Henry of Barnesville, GA; three step-sons Lawrence (Susan) Powell of Clinton Twp., MI, Jeffrey (Paula) Powell of Dayton, OH, and David (Laura) Powell of Brookfield, WI ; twenty seven grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren, with three great-grandchildren on the way. Julie was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her sisters, Carol (Harold) Dewolf of Kalamazoo MI, Joan (Kenneth) Hunt of White Fish Bay, WI, and brother Wade (Patti) Panse of St. Joseph, MI. Visitation will be held Friday morning, September 18th from 10:00 to 11:00 when services will begin at Gull Lake United Methodist Church, 8640 Gull Road, Richland, MI 49083. Private graveside services will be held in Mount Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to West Michigan Cancer Center.
