Obituary
Judith Free, a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished grandmother, was called home to be with the Lord on April 11, 2026, at the age of 83, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Judy lived a life guided by faith, love, and quiet strength. Her greatest blessing was her family. She shared a deep and abiding love with her husband, Ronald, and thought the world of her children and her beloved grandchildren; they were her heart, and she treasured every moment spent together. Judy was deeply loved by many and will be fondly remembered for her sweet and kind spirit. She found joy in shopping, knitting, coloring, and spending quality time at family gatherings, where her warm smile and caring nature made everyone feel welcome. Though Judy's absence is deeply felt, her family takes comfort in their faith, trusting that she is reunited with those who have gone before her, and now rests in the fullness of God's eternal love and grace. Judy is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 50 years, Ronald Free; her brother, Ronald Onderlinde; her parents, Margaret and Marinus Onderlinde; daughter-in-law, Tracy Free; and most recently, her beloved son, Michael Free, who passed away on March 20, 2026, making this especially heavy for her family. She is survived by her daughter Tammy (Steve) Durian and son Randy (Tammy Nye) Free, grandchildren (Hailee, Bryan, Andrew, Alexandra), and many dear great-grandchildren. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Stacey Pangburn for being a loving and compassionate caregiver, as well as a dear friend to Judy, during the last several years of her life. A funeral service will be held on April 16, 2026, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, 3926 South 9th Street, Kalamazoo. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m., with the service to follow at 11:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Judy's memory to the American Cancer Society, the Dementia Society of America, or Centrica Rose Arbor Place in Kalamazoo.
