Joyce Carol Treece passed away, surrounded by family, from a short illness on July 19, 2022. Joyce was born March 12, 1936, to Iva and Lloyd Morrow. She lived in Muskegon Michigan until her junior year of High School. After which her family then moved to Benton Harbor. There she graduated High School and then chose to study education at Western Michigan University, receiving a B.A. While at Western, Joyce was introduced to Kappa Phi and Wesley Foundation. From these two groups, she developed life long friendships. After teaching a year, she met the love of her life on a blind date set up by a college friend. Jim and Joyce were married on August 20, 1960 and enjoyed 62 years of lifelong companionship. They cherished raising their 3 wonderful daughters in the Westnedge Hill neighborhood. Joyce's faith grew through First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo. She participated in many parts of the church such as teaching Sunday school, working the front desk, food pantry, New Years Fest and UMW. After 28 years of teaching kindergarten in KPS, Joyce's love for traveling took her and Jim around the world from Alaska to Australia. But her favorite vacation was spending time on the shores of Lake Michigan with family enjoying the sunsets. While these times were treasured, Joyce's true joy of retirement was being with her beloved grandchildren and visiting her extended family of cherished neices, nephews & family friends. Joyce is survived by her beloved husband, Jim Treece. Her children: Andrea Johnson & Jim McKinney; Penny & David Russel; Leslie Treece & John Gitschlag. Her beloved grandchildren: Jared Russel, Ian Russel, Jack Gitschlag, Mary Gitschlag. Sister In-laws: Marge Morrow and Rose Treece Brother In-laws: Jerry Gritzmaker and Max Treece. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 on September 17, 2022 at First United Methodist Church in Kalamazoo. In lieu of flowers, please donate to First United Methodist Church Kalamazoo or Wesley Foundation of WMU. Arrangements were entrusted to Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation services.
