Joseph G. Kaywood, 49, of Heyworth, passed away at 12:53 p.m. on Friday, March 23, 2018 at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal. His memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, where a visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday. The Rev. Vaughn Hoffman will officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded and a burial of ashes will be held at a later date at Prairie Home Cemetery, Richland, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cruz Kaywood Educational Fund, c/o IAA Credit Union, PO Box 2901, Bloomington, IL 61702. He was born September 30, 1968 in Kalamazoo, MI, son of Joseph L. and Ann Lumie Kaywood. Joe graduated in 1992 from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business and Computer Science. In 1997, a job at State Farm Insurance Company moved Joe to Bloomington, where he met the love of his life, Michelle A. Shelton. They married on September 11, 2004 in Bloomington. Surviving are his wife, Michelle, of Heyworth; one son, Cruz Kaywood (3), at home; his parents, Joseph and Ann Kaywood of Richland, MI; two brothers, Todd (Jennifer) Kaywood of Fort Collins, CO and Andrew Kaywood. Also surviving are one niece and three nephews. Before moving to Bloomington, Joe worked at H.H. Cutler Company and Keystone Systems in Michigan. He then worked at State Farm Insurance Company in Bloomington for 21 years, first in systems, and later as an information security analyst. Joe was an avid Detroit Red Wings fan and he enjoyed attending the local music scenes in Bloomington and Kalamazoo. He was a Jimmy Buffet fan and was a member and former officer of the Central Illinois Parrothead Club, where he assisted in charity fundraisers. Joe also enjoyed volunteering at local air shows in both Bloomington and Peoria and vacationing in Key West, FL with his wife and friends. The family will like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and staff of Advocate BroMenn ICU department.
