VER STEEG, John H. Kalamazoo, MI John H. VerSteeg went to be with his Heavenly Father on June 10, 2022. John was born March 9, 1943 in Sheldon, Iowa, son of Melvin A. Sr. and Eunice M. (DeBruin) VerSteeg. He had resided in the Kalamazoo area since graduating from Hope College in 1965. He served in the Air Force National Guard from 1966 to 1970. In August 1996, he married Lorrie (Layne) VerSteeg. John retired from First Community Federal Credit Union in January 2005 after serving as President/CEO since 1975. He served on the Board of Directors for Kalamazoo Guidance Clinic, The Reformed Church Theological Education in America, Michigan Corporate Credit Union, and The Consistory of Second Reformed Church. He served as President of Hope College Alumni Association, Kalamazoo Exchange Club, Kalamazoo County American Institute of Banking, Kalamazoo County Credit Managers Association, The Salvation Army Advisory Board, Kalamazoo Chapter of Credit Unions, Interfaith Housing Association of Kalamazoo, Friendship Village and Southwest Classis for The Reformed Church of America. John was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Melvin A. VerSteeg, Jr. He is survived by his wife Lorrie Layne VerSteeg, his stepson Scott (Chandra) Kellogg of Mishawaka, IN, grandchildren Hank and Clara Kellogg, sister-in-law Rebecca VerSteeg of Honey Brook, PA; nieces Leah (Derek) Frey of Columbia, PA, Rachel (Joe) Link of New York City, NY, and great-nieces Julia Frey, Lauren Frey, Emma Link and Grace Link. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Second Reformed Church, 2323 Stadium Drive, Kalamazoo, MI. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place. DUE TO ALLERGIES, PLEASE DON'T SEND FLOWERS.
