John Stevens

John Morgan Stevens, resident of Kalamazoo, Michigan, fell asleep in death on Thursday, April 2, 2020 at the age of 76 years. John was born July 7, 1943 in Bridgeport, Michigan, to Harold and Ann (Taylor) Stevens. He received his teaching degree from Michigan State University in 1966. He taught woodshop for two years but soon grew restless. He then took a job in commercial dewatering with Kelley Dewatering & Construction in Wyoming, Michigan. This new line of work quickly became his passion. He spent the next 40 years traveling around the United States to work at various construction sites. Through a few transitions, he finally retired from Kelley Dewatering in 2010 as part owner. On October 26, 1966 he married the love of his life, Ruth Ellen Bueker, after a short courtship of just 56 days. They raised five children together, three boys and two girls. He appreciated nature, enjoyed feeding the birds, and spent much of his free time taking in the fresh air on his back patio. He loved good food and even better company. Nothing made him happier than to be surrounded by his family on a Sunday evening, eating a delicious steak dinner with lively conversation. He was a very generous, kind-hearted individual who made all feel welcome. A true mentor to many who came into his life. He will be greatly missed by his wife Ruth of 54 years; Son, Paul Stevens (Marcia); Son, Andrew Stevens; Daughter, Elizabeth Martinez (Jon); Son, Jacob Stevens; Daughter, Anna Steuer (Davin). Eight grandchildren in order of birth: Sienna, Carter, Elle, Reuben, Nicklas, Brennan, and Mario.
