Obituary
Mr. John "Jack" R. Herbig, age 82, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2008. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Church. Jack served in the army during World War II. Jack was drafted to serve in the Army before he graduated. In 2002 he received his high school diploma. He was an employee at the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 1984. Jack was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing weekly with his cronies. Jack was a superior Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather and he enjoyed spending his time with his great grandchildren, Tyler and Addison. He is survived by his wife, Edna; one son, Walter L. (Sue) Herbig of Spring Hill, Tennessee as well as grandchildren, Jarrod (Tracy) and Erica Herbig, DJ and Joshua Pillivant and Matthew Atkins and two great grandchildren, Tyler and Addison. He is also survived by his brother, Donald "Bud" (Ellen) Herbig; and sister-in-law, Sara Flint; and brother-in-laws, Roe (Pam) Van Fossen, William "Pete" (Priscilla) English, Gail (Mary) English, Daniel (Nora) English and many nieces and nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Estelle Herbig. A Mass will be held at SS. Peter and Paul Church on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. located at 1433 Hamilton Ave. N.W. with Father Dennis W. Morrow officiating. Please meet at church. Military honors will be under the auspices of the U.S. Army with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will meet with relatives and friends on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Arsulowicz Brothers Remembrance Mortuary, 3525 Remembrance Rd. where a Rosary will be prayed, Tuesday at 7 p.m. In Lieu of flowers, donations to SS.
