John J. Steimle Jr.

John Joseph Steimle, Jr., age 96, passed away on January 3, 2020 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo, MI. John was born May 13, 1923 in Little Ferry, NJ, the son of John and Ida (Rupprecht) Steimle, Sr. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII from 1943-46, and in 1956 he received Bachelor's Degree from Rutgers University. On July 24, 1948, he was united in marriage to Kathryn (Kohring) Steimle and they resided in Maywood, NJ until 1966 when relocating to Ft. Wayne, IN, where they resided until 2003. In 2003 they moved to Portage, MI. John was employed with Alcoa Aluminum & Lincoln Manufacturing for 48 years prior to retiring in 1990. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Knights of Columbus and currently a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. John was preceded in death by his wife Kathryn on December 2, 2006. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law Robert and Jane Steimle; two granddaughters Emily Steimle and Susan Hall and her husband Justin. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00am on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church (1150 W. Centre Ave., Portage, MI) where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am Tuesday. Interment with full military honors will take place in Highland Park Cemetery in Ft. Wayne, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorials in John's memory may be directed to the National Parkinson's Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131.
