John M. Barrett, age 63, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at 11:51pm at the Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. John was born on September 20, 1958 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Donald and Marilee (Fonner) Barrett, both of whom are deceased. He was married to Vanessa J. Craft and she passed away on October 17, 2005. He then later married Julie Huffman-Hawkins and she survives in Upper Sandusky. He is survived by his 2 children: Bradley Barrett of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Anna (Garrett) Guillozet of Worthington, Ohio. Along with Julie's 2 sons, Larry (Maureen) Hawkins of Harpster, Ohio, and Heath (Layne) Hawkins of Dover. Grandchildren, Graham Guillozet, Noah and Sampson Hawkins, and David Hawkins. John is also survived by his brothers, Robert (Sherry) Barrett, Gerald (Barbara) Barrett, and Peter (Joy) Barrett, and sisters, Barb (Richard) Szopinski, Patricia (Tim) Mehl, Mary Kellis and Margaret (Michael) Glenn, Carol (Wayne) Shepardson, and a brother in law, Jack DeVries. John is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who were treasured by him. He was preceded in death by a sister Ellen DeVries. John was a 1976 graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School and went on to attend Marion Technical College. He owned and operated Barrett Trucking for many years and also had worked at Guardian Industries in Upper Sandusky. John was a member of Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church, where he was active as a Eucharistic minister and Funeral server. He also was a member of the former Wyandot Free Wheelers. For hobbies he enjoyed camping with Julie and the NOVA Airstream Club, tinkering with bikes, and will be remembered for his love for his wife, children, and grandchildren. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00am Monday, November 8, 2021 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky with Rev. Gail Sims officiating. John's daughter, Rev. Anna Guillozet, will lead a service of committal at the graveside following.
