JoAnn Roberts

JoAnn Marie Roberts, 84 of Kalamazoo, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2023. She was born on July 30, 1939, in Detroit to Danny and Josephine (Pezzino) Pozzuto.

JoAnn graduated from Western Michigan University as an education specialist. She taught elementary school for over 30 years at Springfield Public Schools in Battle Creek. She loved to inspire her students and enjoyed teaching all subjects.

JoAnn grew up listening to and playing classical piano music. She inevitably became a piano teacher to pass on her knowledge to those dedicated students with whom she shared her passion.

One of her greatest accomplishments was rescuing and caring for over thirty dogs throughout her life. She rescued many different breeds, but she had a special place in her heart for Australian Shepherds.

JoAnn was a strong Italian Catholic and held her faith close to her. She had a deep relationship with her Lord and Savior, which was instilled upon her by her family.

JoAnn is survived by her daughters Tracy DeMars (John Geiser) and Bonnie Blackman (Robert); grandchildren Joanna Pozzuto, Paul Dickens (Melia), Elena Geiser, and Timothy DeMars (Kara); greatgrandchildren Elianna, Bennett, Jensen, Calahan, and Liliana Renee; sister Donna Roberts; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Danny and Josephine Pozzuto.
