Dr. Jerome H. Dykstra, age 78, of Holland, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2008.

He was a member of Martin Christian Reformed Church and attended Maranatha Christian Reformed Church.

Dr. Dykstra graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School, Calvin College, and the University of Michigan Medical School. He served his internship at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids. He practiced family medicine in Fennville, Holland and Plainwell for many years. He served as the Sports Doctor for West Ottawa Public Schools, as the Ottawa County Medical Examiner for a time and was one of the first Emergency Room Physicians at Holland Hospital. He was inducted into the West Ottawa Hall of Fame in 1997.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Jeanette, on April 20, 2008, his parents and three infant daughters.

He is survived by his children, Dr. Mark and Dr. Terri Dykstra of Milwaukee, Marshall and Diane Dykstra of Holland, Mitchell Dykstra and friend Sharon Berthuis of Holland, Merrilee Van Kampen of Holland; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Carolyn and Harold Masselink of Walker; brother, Carlton and Esther Dykstra of Jenison; sisters-in-law, Lucy Reister of Muskegon, Nell Oldhouse of Byron Center, Clare Roosien of Wyoming, Helen and Jerry Riemersma of Rockford, Joyce Start of Grandville; brother-in-law, Robert and Clara Start of Jenison; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10:00am Saturday, August 9, 2008 at Maranatha Christian Reformed Church, 918 Central Ave., with Rev. Henry Vanden Heuvel officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8pm on Friday, August 8 at Notier-Ver Lee-Langeland Funeral Chapel, 315 E 16th Street, Holland. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Holland and Holland Christian Schools.
