Jean Von der Osten

von der Osten, Jean Kalamazoo, Michigan Jean von der Osten, age 90 of Kalamazoo, died at home under hospice care on July 1, 2021. She was born on February 27, 1931, in Smith Falls, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of John "Jack" and Velma (Gardiner) Jakes. On July 17, 1951, Jean married Harold von der Osten. He preceded her in death in 2013. Jean was a long-time member of Zion Luther Church where she had been active over the years, especially with the Braille Workers Program. Jean loved to help her friends and loved ones and always cherished time with her family. Her family includes her two sons, David of Three Rivers and Robert (Elyse) of Grand Rapids, as well as her granddaughters, Kyra, Bridget, and Brittany; and great-grandsons Asher and Conner. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2021, at 2 PM at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Zion Lutheran Church.
