Obituary
Klavins, Mr. Janis 8/6/1922 - 9/13/2015 Kalamazoo Age 93, passed away at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence on Sunday, September 13, 2015, with family at his side. He was born in Madona, Latvia on August 6, 1922. He was a soldier who fought in World War II. On June 23, 1948, in a Displaced Persons Camp in Germany, he married the love of his life Gaida M. (Evele) Klavins who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Sandra; a son, Andis; three grandchildren, Karmene, Laila, and Andis. On May 12, 1949, they stepped off the boat USS General Omar Bundy in New Orleans and would later live in Mississippi, Tennessee, and Michigan. He was a faithful member of the Kalamazoo Latvian Church. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015, beginning at 11:00 AM, at the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran United Church, 122 Cherry Hill Kalamazoo, MI 49006. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Grand Rapids at 2:00 PM. Memorials may be made to the Latvian Church or to Rose Arbor Hospice Residence, c/o the funeral home.
