Janice R. Bowman

Janice R. Bowman of Portage, MI

Passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday evening, December 10, 2023. Jan was born November 8, 1942 in Peoria, IL the daughter of George and Harriet (Bass) Conaway. On August 8, 1964 Jan was united in marriage to her loving husband Larry Bowman. She worked as a receptionist for Checker Motors until 1966. Jan loved staying at home taking care of her family. She returned to work as a dental assistant in the 1980's and worked until 1996 when she retired to provide childcare for her grandchildren. Jan enjoyed walking, biking, and baking. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family doing outdoor activities including sporting events, camping, and traveling.

Jan is survived by her husband Larry. Also surviving are her children, Kathy (Mike) Westra, Todd Bowman; 3 grandchildren, Mac, Sam, and Luke Westra; sisters, Joyce Hutcheson, Jackie (Al) East, Julie (John) Bergeon; and several nieces and nephews. An open house to celebrate Jan's life will be held on January 6, 2024 from 1-4pm at The Celery Flats Grain Elevator, 7328 Garden Lane, Portage, MI 49002. Private family interment will be held at a later date in Portage South Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org).
