Janice Newhouse

Janice K. Newhouse. 82, passed away Monday, April 26, 2021 in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born April 24, 1939 to Joseph and Katherine (Holden) Gasser. Three points guided Jan's life, family, community, and life-long learning. An excellent student, Jan was the Rodney B Wilson valedictorian for the year of 1957. She received her B.S. degree in Medical Technology from Michigan State University, and remained a lifelong Spartan. Wherever life took her, Jan continued her education, reading voraciously, and she passed this love of learning down to her children and grand-children. A second theme to Jan's life was community. Throughout Jan's many moves, she endeavored to become part of the community, involving herself in a variety of organizations and churches, all focused on making a difference. Central to Jan's life was family. Whether she was researching family genealogy, or attending sporting events for children and grandchildren, family was paramount. Jan made sure that her family always knew they were loved. She doted on her grandsons. Janice is survived by her children, Cindy (Bradley) Bloom and Gerard (Maria) Newhouse; 3 grandchildren, Garrett Bloom, Gerard and Robert Newhouse; her sister, Caroline L. Garrick ; as well as nieces and nephews. Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Kay Gasser, her brother and sister-in-law, David and Betsy Gasser, and her brother-in-law, Bernie Garrick.
