Age 90, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2020. Jane was born in Kalamazoo on October 9, 1929, the daughter of the late Olen and Evelyn (Spear) Kull. She was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School. Before raising her children, Jane worked for Michigan Bell Telephone Company and in later life was employed by Gantos Department Store at Maple Hill Mall. Jane loved to read, especially the Kalamazoo Gazette, reading it cover to cover including the advertisements. She also wrote children's poetry on occasion and was an excellent seamstress. Jane's biggest passion, however, was shopping, particularly in Saugatuck, to where she and her husband moved after retirement. Jane volunteered for the American Red Cross at Borgess Hospital and was very active in her children's elementary school, Indian Prairie. On April 16, 1949, she was united in marriage to Charles VerMeulen, who preceded her in death on November 22, 2016. Jane was also preceded in death by her daughter, Laura Hatrick and twin sister, Joan Bachelder. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia VerMeulen; son, Steven VerMeulen; son in-law, Richard Hatrick; grandchildren, Jody (Matt) Postma, Jaime (Chris) Lagenour, Kaelynn (Steve) Benham, Ryan (Melissa) Hatrick, Jacob VerMeulen, Samantha Beland and Anya Dompier; great-grandchildren, Carly and Ben Postma, Jonathan, Sarah and James Lagenour, Bradley, Daniel and Elizabeth Benham, Ella Hatrick, Johnathon Russell, Jr. and Maceo Aguilar; half-sister, Karen (Lloyd) Esterline and several beloved nieces and nephews. A graveside memorial service will be held at Riverside Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, American Cancer Society, or a charity of one's choice.
