Jan Duplissie left her family and friends on June 6, 2022 following a brief illness. The cause of death may be the result of too many Michigan winters, isolation due to Covid 19, or the wear and tear of 68 well-lived years. Jan was born on January 26,1954 in Boston, MA to the late Beatrice (Messier) and Ralph Duplissie. She grew up in Nashua, NH, graduating from Mt. St. Mary Seminary in 1972. Jan earned a Masters in Social Work from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI, where she lived for her adult life. She worked for Kalamazoo Mental Health Services for many years as a supervisor of intake, discharge planning, and emergency services. Following her retirement from community mental healthcare, Jan worked as a Behavioral Health Social Worker at Bronson LakeView Hospital. Jan will be remembered as a tireless advocate for those in need of support and for those who could not advocate for themselves. Jan will be greatly missed by her large extended family and the many friends she made in childhood and throughout her life. She enjoyed good company, laughing, and socializing. She is survived by her longtime companion, Jerry Burhans of Kalamazoo; her sister, Karen Duplissie (Carl Johnson) of New Salem, MA; her niece, Addie Duplissie-Johnson (Paul Procops) of New York City; her nephew, Peter Duplissie-Johnson (Jade Bergez) of Northampton, MA and Portland, OR; and her much loved great niece, Augusta Rose Procops of NYC. Jan was committed to civil justice and the fight for human rights and dignity. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to an organization that furthers these purposes. Jan will be buried in Nashua, NH in a private service at the convenience of her family.
