James "Jim" Ray Preston, 62, of Curtice, Ohio, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, February 4, 2012, after a brief battle with cancer. Jim was born August 18, 1949, to Ronald and C. Evelyn (Green) Preston. He graduated from high school in Battle Creek, Michigan, in 1967 after which he enlisted in the United States Army in 1968. Jim served three years in Korea during the Vietnam Era. Upon his return he married Bonnie Barlond and would have celebrated 40 years together this August. Jim and Bonnie opened their home to over 50 foster children over a 15-year period. Jim also dedicated his talents as a chef to his church. He enjoyed being on his 1995 Honda Goldwing cruiser Trike, cruising the countryside with Bonnie. Jim is survived by his three children, Stacie (SPC Blagoy 256 MP Company) Pogoncheff of Fort Leavenworth, KS, Pastor Carmen Preston of Columbus and Benjamin (Kimberly Overmeyer) Preston of Toledo; six grandchildren, Kelbie, Kialie, AJ, Toby, CJ and Krystina; and his siblings, Martha (Allen) Hamp-Wilcox, Mary (Peter) Killeen and Ron (Laura) Preston. A celebration of Jim's life and legacy will be held at Lighthouse Assembly of God, 2324 W. Alexis Rd., Toledo, Ohio, at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 8, 2012. In lieu of flowers, memorials for Jim may be directed to Lighthouse Assembly of God Worship Ministries. The Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory of Genoa has assisted the family with arrangements.
