Mitchell, James A. Otsego, MI Jim passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Metro Health Hospital. He was born November 10, 1951 in Kalamazoo, the son of Charles and Elizabeth (Brockie) Mitchell. As a young man Jim worked at a tree nursery and Wells Aluminum in Parchment. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and proudly served his country during Vietnam. After his honorable discharge he worked at Menasha Paper as a journeyman millwright until its closing. He went on to work at Bowers Aluminum in Kalamazoo until his retirement. Jim also owned and operated a farm with his family. He was a jack of all trades and could fix anything. In his spare time he enjoyed camping, target shooting, watching westerns and reading. Most of all Jim loved spending time with his grandchildren. On July 3, 1971 at the Church of the Nazarene in Kalamazoo, he married Deborah Perkins who survives. Also surviving are his children, Debby (Earl) Young and Renee Mitchell; grandchildren, Dustin Mitchell, Alek Culver, Madison Culver and Isaac Culver; great-grandchildren, Jamison and Leighton Culver; siblings, Kay, Denice, Sherry and Jeff; brothers –in-law, Steve and Danny Perkins; aunt and uncle, Jim and Doris Brown along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws and brother, Charles "Chuck" Mitchell. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial honoring Jim will be held in the spring.
