James I. "Pete" Brown Battle Creek James I. "Pete" Brown, 91, of Battle Creek, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at Mercy Pavilion in Battle Creek. He was born July 11, 1916 in Bridgman, MI the son of O. Frank and Mable (Taylor) Brown. He married La May Marsh in 1937 and she preceded him in death in September 1992. Pete then married Shirley M. Heywood on May 8, 1999. Pete graduated from Lakeview High School in 1937. He served in the Army during World War II under General Patton in Germany and he was awarded the Purple Heart. Pete worked at the Battle Creek Sanitarium Farm, American Marsh Pump Co. and Clark Equipment as a machinist, Pete retired in 1981. He attended Christ United Methodist Church. Pete and Shirley danced three nights a week. They bowled with friends and enjoyed many summers together at Sandy Pines Resort. He is survived by his wife, Shirley M. Brown; son, Norman Brown of Tennessee; sister, Doris Felder; 4 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 3 stepchildren; 6 stepgrandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, C. Archer and Delmar Brown; and sister, Dorothy Bidelman. Visitation will be held at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service on Sunday from 2 - 4 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, 10:00 a.m. at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service with the Rev. Carolyn Robinson-Fisher officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial tributes may be made to Lifespan-Good Samaritan Hospice Care or Christ United Methodist Church.
