Hughes, James F. 11/6/1939 - 1/27/2023 Rockford, MI Mr. James F. Hughes, age 83, of Rockford, MI, passed away Friday, January 27, 2023. He was born November 6, 1939 in Manhatten, NY to John Joseph and Catherine Ann (Pfeiffer) Hughes. James married the former Lorena Salem at St. Joseph Catholic Church, located in West Milford, NJ. He was a graduate of St. Mary High School in Rutherford, NJ and St. Peter's College, where he obtained his degree in Accounting. James was a member of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #7761. Jim enjoyed golfing, Sportmen's Club, and was active with the Boy Scouts and the Catholic Community of Boy Scouting. Mr. Hughes is survived by their children, Deborah (Richard) Umlor and James Frederick Hughes; three grandchildren, Sarah Lynn Umlor, Jacob Donald Umlor, and Rainier James Hughes; one brother, Kevin (Robbie) Hughes; three sisters in law, Patricia Hughes, Sherean Hughes, Carol Norman; one brother in law, Charlie Salem; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Lorena Hughes; two brothers, John and Kenneth Hughes. The Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Hughes will be offered Friday, February 3, 2023, at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, 4865 11 Mile Rd., NE, Rockford, MI with Fr. Danny Orris presiding. Interment will be in the Rockford Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, February 2, 2023 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the Pederson Funeral Home, 127 N. Monroe St., Rockford, MI 49341, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 pm. There will also be visitation Friday, one hour prior to the Mass. There will be fellowship and luncheon following Mass at the church.
